Mission:
Streetlight Outreach is dedicated to identifying and filling gaps in services through community donations, advocacy, and support.
We are a proudly secular nonprofit, free from religious affiliation, founded on the belief that meaningful support starts with showing up consistently.We listen to the people we serve, believe their experiences, and respect their right to decide what support looks like for them. Our role is not to determine someone’s goals for them, but to work alongside them toward the goals they set for themselves.Through direct outreach, we identify unmet needs and work alongside community members to find practical, person-centred solutions. That can mean connecting someone with resources, advocating alongside them, providing essential items, or mobilizing the community to fill a gap that existing services cannot.Our work is guided by connection, dignity, empowerment, and self-determination. We believe people should have a voice in the support they receive and that the person experiencing a challenge should be at the centre of decisions about how they are supported.Streetlight also creates opportunities for youth to build on their existing strengths, skills, and interests through meaningful, real-world experience. We give young people the space to explore what they’re already passionate about, develop their abilities through hands-on projects and initiatives, and use those talents to make a difference in the lives of others along the way.
Our Services:
Immediate Street Outreach:
Our outreach teams regularly visit community gathering spaces, encampments, and street locations in Ottawa.By prioritizing essential comforts, personal safety, and meaningful conversations, we lay the groundwork for lasting progress without judgment.
Targeted, Longer-term Outreach:
Where appropriate, we offer longer term support through targeted outreach and advocacy against the unique systemic barriers of the people we serve.We don’t aim to duplicate existing services. We look for what’s missing, then work together to fill the gap.
